Of course, the emergence of AI and technologies like deepfakes present their own challenges to discerning truth. China’s use of AI-enhanced images to spread lies about the Maui fires is one example. Any malicious actors, including within political campaigns, can use sophisticated technologies to create deepfake videos that alter reality, discredit opponents, or cause us to doubt the information we receive.
