Jury selection begins Tuesday in the murder trial of Chance Stelzig, who is accused in the fatal beating of Faustino Rodriguez, 46 durng an alleged robbery in November 2019.

When they got closer, they saw three men — one carrying a baseball bat — running from the gas station to a nearby apartment complex. Then they saw Rodriguez on the ground, bleeding and unresponsive, according to a police report. Emergency medical technicians attempted life-saving measures on the man for 40 minutes before he was pronounced dead at the scene. Rodriguez was not carrying any identification and his identity was later confirmed by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.Online court records indicate Stelzig, now 29, was homeless. He is represented by defense attorneys Meredith Chacon and Karl Alexander. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.
