The Treasury's inspector general will assess whether a plan to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill was improperly slowed
WASHINGTON—The Treasury Department’s watchdog has agreed to look into the agency’s plan to put Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill, which Secretary Steven Mnuchin said last month wouldn’t be completed during his tenure.
Sen. Chuck Schumer asked the agency’s inspector general last week to investigate whether the Trump Treasury Department had intentionally slow-walked the plan, noting that President Trump had panned the idea as a candidate in 2016.Harriet Tubman will replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the redesigned $20 bill, the Treasury Department announced Wednesday, after scrapping plans for a woman to be on the $10 bill.
