In 2020, amid a year of violence and fear, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders were hypervisible — and that changed the way they look at themselves and politics, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll

​​There are double digit gaps in AAPI adults’ confidence in how the major parties would handle policy priorities.

A significant chunk of adults said they didn’t trust either party to handle these policy issues. That number was usually greater than the number for those who trusted the GOP. AAPI adults have a long-standing tendency to vote blue , but also think of themselves as “independent” or “unaffiliated.” Indian Americans, the most progressive under the AAPI umbrella, now outnumber even Chinese. This could have a significant effect on the community’s political profile.
