Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has turned out the best opening weekend for the franchise in nearly a decade. The movie is the seventh entry in the live-action movie franchise, which is adapted from the Hasbro/Takara Tomy toy line and media franchise of the same name.

Its opening weekend is currently projected to rake in a domestic gross of $60 million, slightly lower than original expectations but already above the drastically reduced projections from the beginning of the weekend.
Will Rise of the Beasts Usher In a New Era of Transformers? One reason there has been such a long gap between Transformers movies is the lukewarm box office run of the spinoff Bumblebee. Although the first four Transformers movies took in huge grosses, it looked like diminishing returns were about to sink the franchise. However, the franchise biding its time seems to have worked out well.
While Transformers: Rise of the Beasts' box office can't yet compare to the early Transformers franchise, it's a huge step in the right direction. The movie also boasts the third-highest Rotten Tomatoes score of the entire franchise. Taking those two factors into account, this could mean that the future of the franchise is secure for the time being.
This is good news, because Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is just the first of the 2020s-era Transformers projects. In addition to its own tease of an unexpected Transformers crossover, it's being followed by Transformers One in 2024 as well as a pair of Beasts sequels. It remains to be seen if those follow-up projects can build on this movie's forward momentum, but if they do the franchise could very well return better than ever, both critically and commercially.
