A tractor-trailer going the wrong way on I-83 early Monday morning in York County hit another car, killing the driver, according to police.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-83 between Exit 21 and Exit 19A . The crash shut down the road for nearly seven hours.What happened?According to police, the operator of a tractor-trailer entered the I-83 southbound lane at Exit 19 heading in the northbound direction, against opposing traffic. The southbound I-83 ramp heading south from Market Street onto I-83 was closed due to maintenance.
A second vehicle driven by the man who died was driving his car onto I-83 in the southbound lane when he collided with the tractor-trailer that was going in the wrong direction. The car traveled over a guard-railed embankment where the car came to rest overturned against a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver will not be released until the next of kin is notified. Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the crash.
