Toto Wolff reveals the moment at which Mercedes ‘may as well turn it off’Toto Wolff says Mercedes have to maintain their belief they can catch Red Bull in terms of pace this season, otherwise they may as well “turn it off” and focus on next year.
Such was the Red Bull driver’s advantage on the day he was able to pit for fresh tyres on the penultimate lap to take the fastest lap point, and still won the race by five seconds. It was a race in which Hamilton gave voice to his frustrations, complaining several times that he couldn’t turn the car with Wolff getting on the radio to tell him that the team knows the car is “bad” and to “please drive it”.
