Justine Greening, who served as education secretary from 2016 to 2018, said the current university funding model “has become unsustainable” and is “anti-levelling up” poppyeh reports
The current Labour leader had promised to maintain the policy from Mr Corbyn’s manifesto in a bid “to end the national scandal of spiralling student debt”, but recently refused to confirm he would go ahead with the plans.
However, his comments on the matter came shortly after a New Year speech in which he emphasised that a Labour administration would not use a “big government cheque book” to solve Britain’s problems, including stretched public services. “The less Tory Gosplanning that goes on the better, in terms of telling students what to study, telling universities what to teach, what to research,” he said at the Policy Exchange event on Wednesday.
