THE CROWN Prosecution Service say they are still mystified as to why black people are more likely to be charged for the same crime compared to white people.
“It is troubling that it has found evidence of unexplained disproportionality in the outcomes of our legal decision making. Black mixed heritage African suspects had the second highest charge rate at 77.5%. They were followed by 77.5% of Caribbean people and African people at 74.7%.Racial disparities in charging has long been known, but the new study sheds further light on the issue after the CPS commissioned the University of Leeds to examine 195,000 cases involving charging decisions and uses regression analysis across sex, ethnicity and crime type.
