Todd Interests has began construction on the Freestone Club neighborhood that will be built overtop the land that used to be Fairfield Lake State Park in...

The Dallas Morning News“Farmers and ranchers and landowners have the right to do what they want with their land,” Todd said.Dennis Walsh, who was a former superintendent at Fairfield State Park, stands in support of the use of eminent domain to keep the park as Todd Interests founder and CEO Shawn Todd and Freestone County officials host a news conference outside of the Freestone County Courthouse on July 6.

Some people commented that getting rid of the building while the condemnation process was still taking place was “vindictive,” petty,” “sad” and “disgusting.” Others questioned why TPWD wasn’t stepping in to do more. A TPWD spokesman, asked Wednesday about the video, said the department recognizes Todd Interests is operating within its rights as a property owner but reiterated that the parks commissioners “were pretty open” during their meeting to vote on condemning the land that they hoped Todd would hold off on any construction or development.

As of Wednesday, the state had not provided Todd Interests with an appraisal-based offer for the property, which is the next step in the condemnation process.
