Arnaud Chastaing looked to the stars as inspiration for his latest timepiece creations for Chanel.
Arnaud Chastaing, director of the Chanel Watchmaking Creation Studio.Science fiction and, more specifically, time travel, were two additional themes the creative director looked toward when creating the“Journeys in reality or fantasy, like teleportation, with all the existential questions that come with it, but also those of dreams or the ones prompted by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge,” Chastaing says.
These inspirations translate to alluring iterations such as the ceramic J12 watch decorated with a pixelated appearance that extends to the cut-out case. The bold, black-and-white design, dubbed the J12 Cybernetic, builds on the “fused” ceramic technology originally introduced with the J12 Pardoxe in 2020.
“The diamonds forming the elbows and eyes seem to bring it to life, and demonstrate how the Première never takes itself too seriously and offers all kinds of interpretations,” Chastaing says. “Even the most playful.”With a black, patent-leather quilted strap — a nod to the house’s iconic quilted handbags — the Boy.Friend Cyberdata features a circuit-board-inspired motif, punctuated with petite, round-cut diamonds, on its dial.
