Actor OfcTimAllen on his role as Buzz Lightyear: ‘Actually, it’s Santa Claus now’
While celebrating Thanksgiving in Detroit with his family at Ford Field, where the Lions lost to the Buffalo Bills 28-25, local WXYZ reporter Brad Galli asked Allen what drew him to the game, noting how incredible it was to see him after his son was dressed up as the Toy Story space ranger earlier in the day.
“I’ve been kicked off the field a couple of times,” he said, explaining he can sometimes turn into “a real fan” and question whether the “purpose of this game is to win.” “Look, we are what we are,” he continued. “Some of the best fans in the United States. Some of the best facilities, best uniforms. Some of the great history.”
Allen also expressed excitement over his new Disney+ The Santa Clauses series, saying, “It’s really good.” The actor recently took heat over a line in which he exasperatedly laments that"saying 'Merry Christmas to all' has suddenly become problematic."Allen, 69, is reprising the Disney role of Santa Claus after being cast in the first film in 1994. The first two episodes were released last week, with the third becoming available Wednesday. Weekly releases will follow on Disney+ until the final sixth episode.

Tim Allen is 'Humbled' to Be Santa Again in Disney's 'The Santa Clauses'For Tim Allen, revisiting his iconic lead role in ‘The Santa Clauses’ (November 16, Disney+) was more than just creating 'content' for a nostalgic streaming audience. 'We had a great responsibility,” he told Newsweek’s H. Alan Scott on the Parting Shot. For Allen, who is 'humbled' to be 'reminded that I have been part of Santa Clause,' he wanted the new miniseries to 'make sense for the adults like me.' Part of that meant filling in some holes left by the original 1994 film, ‘The Santa Clause.’ 'There's a wonderful scene where I meet up and get kind of chastised by all the other Santas that have come and gone.' But ultimately what makes the role so relatable is 'it's about a guy's journey and about making sacrifices.' That's something Allen can relate to, given that his wholesome onscreen persona can be at odds with his onstage comic image. For Allen, who says sometimes 'censorship is required,' it's about how you communicate. 'There are better words than the F bomb. I can't think of them, but there are other ways to say that. It is possible to be very intelligent and yet still be very firm with your words.'
