The popular short-video and social-media app TikTok, formerly known as Musical.ly, agreed to a $5.7 million settlement with federal regulators over allegations that it illegally collected personal information from children.

The Federal Trade Commission claims Musical.ly violated a law that requires websites and online services aimed at children to obtain parental consent before collecting personal information from anyone under the age of 13 years.
