The journalists reportedly included those who formerly wrote about TikTok security concerns at BuzzFeed News.
TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance said on Thursday that a small group of employees inappropriately obtained personal data of US TikTok users and are no longer employed at ByteDance. Thereported that some of the users whose data was accessed included two journalists, one at BuzzFeed News and one at the Financial Times.
Four ByteDance employees — two based in the US, two based in China — reportedly were responsible for the security breach, which was meant to find the sources of suspected media leaks. They have all been fired.
