For the second year in a row, Alabama might have punched its ticket to the NCAA baseball tournament on the second day of the SEC tournament.

Alabama, which has not won the SEC tournament since 2003, entered Wednesday as the third of the first four teams projected bynot to make the NCAA regionals. The tournament field will be revealed Monday at 11 a.m. CT. “They played clean baseball, their pitchers threw strikes, and they took advantage of our mistakes early to get out to a pretty decent lead,” said Matt Hobbs, the Arkansas pitching coach who led the dugout in place of coach Dave Van Horn, who missed the game because he was not feeling well.
The Razorbacks had more success swinging the bat, scoring its runs on a solo, third-run homer and a two-run blast in the sixth. But Arkansas’ two errors, six walks, a wild pitch, balk and runner reaching on a dropped third strike gave Alabama the help it needed to win. “We’ve really done more of that out of necessity than what I think our personnel is,” Bohannon explained. “I really thought going into the season that we would get more extra-base hits and we would be more of an offense that just strung hits together. We got in the middle of the season and that just wasn’t working.
“Both bullpens were just outstanding,” Bohannon said. “Weren’t very many hits the back half of the game and was really proud of our whole team but especially those guys that pitched after Jacob McNairy gave us a good start today.”in RPI, with its win over No. 32 Arkansas the Tide’s 13th over a top-50 team in RPI. Alabama had the fourth-strongest RPI strength of schedule in the country entering Wednesday.
