A thug who stabbed another man twice in Piccadilly Gardens during a ‘group attack’ has avoided jail. Issac Francis, 22, has been banned from entering the area and handed an 18 month community order for wounding and possession of a bladed article.

He was caught on CCTV running with his right hand in his pocket.
Francis was arrested on March 21 after being identified through CCTV footage and remanded into custody five days later. Addressing the court, she said: “In terms of the offence it’s difficult to give any real explanation as to why. In short it was a misplaced sense of loyalty to those involved.” Passing sentence, Recorder Alexandra Simmons said Francis had “joined in what was a group attack committed in the evening in a busy area of the city centre that would have caused alarm and distress”.
