Thousands are without power after storms that prompted severe thunderstorm warnings in Southeast Texas.
An interesting, quick-forming area of low pressure moved toward our area from the south on Tuesday morning.
The first severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for counties along the coast around 10 a.m. and then spread northward to Fort Bend County and Harris County. The warnings have since expired.A ground stop was issued at Hobby Airport on Tuesday morning but has since been lifted.The National Weather Service has upgraded the severe threat for Texas from a level 2 to a level 3 with the potential for supercell storms in Central and North Texas Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Locally on Tuesday night, a squall line is expected to move our way from the northwest, so storms do look likely by Wednesday morning and possibly lingering into the afternoon. Thursday will be a transition day as we turn the corner toward another heatwave. High temperatures for the Memorial Day weekend are expected to rise to the mid-90s all three days.
