Odin is one of Marvel's most powerful characters, but his son Thor has long since surpassed him as a true hero - at least according to Mjolnir.
As Marvel Comics’ premiere God of Thunder, Thor’s connection to the one and only Mjolnir is the stuff of legend, and according to his enchanted mallet, Thor has long surpassed his arrogant and often overbearing father Odin. Having wielded the star-forged weapon for countless centuries, Thor and Mjolnir have quite the singular bond, despite the various trials and tribulations they’ve been through. And that bond is ultimately what proves that the Mighty Thor has surpassed his father, Odin.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Avengers Assemble Omega #1 by Jason Aaron, Aaron Kuder, and Dexter Vines, features the infamous All-Fathe Odinr – the former wielder of Mjolnir itself – ultimately relinquishing the famed weapon of the gods. A million years in the past, Odin proclaims the tool to be unworthy of him, vowing to never wield it again.
Indeed, as recently as Thor Vol. 4 #1 by Jason Aaron, Russel Dauterman, and Matthew Wilson, Odin is no longer even worthy of lifting Mjolnir, let alone commanding it, thus failing his own enchantments. Thor himself has had more than a few issues maintaining his worthiness in terms of wielding Mjolnir, but the pair are inevitably reunited time and again.
Thor Does What Odin Cannot Odin may be one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Comics universe, but according to Mjolnir, he can’t hold a candle to his son Thor when it comes to heroism. The notoriously egotistical All-Father himself may have trouble accepting this notion, but his own magics have deemed it so. And if Thor can command Asgard as efficiently as he does Mjolnir, then the God of Thunder will quickly put Odin’s legacy to shame.
