This tragic Stranger Things season 4 death was also the most predictable:
The dramatic overture does its job, drawing the attention of the bats towards Eddie and Dustin and away from Vecna, so that the others could attack. Though the scene is magic, it also serves as confirmation that he is not going to make it.
The sensational theme music is a backdrop to the others as they charge on with the mission. However, the intensity increases with Dustin counting down to the arrival of the bats. T-minus 20 seconds, 10, one. Once the last note sounds out, the gravity of their situation becomes very real. The bats in their insurmountable numbers prove that the Duffers literally sentenced them to death. There was no way both could survive. They did their best, of course, to fight them off – but when they realised they were defeated, they retreated back to the real Hawkins with the bats hot on their tail.Realising a flaw in their very woolly plan, Eddie doubled back, running deeper into the Upside Down to ensure the bats didn't make it out of the gate and that Dustin would be safe.
There, Eddie chose to abandon what he believed to be the cowardice that caused him to flee when faced with danger. He turned and faced the hell bats with nothing but a dustbin lid pierced with nails as his makeshift shield, and a spear .
