, vitiligo is finally becoming more widely understood and accepted. And because of a new study, a better treatment option for those with vitiligo could be on the way.was coordinated out of Tufts Medical Center in Boston and is the largest randomized controlled vitiligo study ever conducted. This means that the patients in the study were chosen at random to either receive the topical treatment or a placebo, in order to keep things unbiased.

Currently, the treatment options for vitiligo include other topical medications and light therapy, Fenton explains. "The topical medications are anti-inflammatory creams that work by suppressing the inflammation in the skin, [but] unfortunately, these topical creams do not work very well," Fenton says.
