Actor Andy Serkis, whose second Star Wars role came as Andor’s Kino Loy, almost did not return due to his experiences playing Supreme Leader Snoke.

Actor Andy Serkis has revealed that he considered not returning to the Star Wars franchise in Andor due to his experience playing Supreme Leader Snoke. Serkis was first revealed as a Star Wars character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, providing the motion capture and voice performance for Snoke, the dark side leader of the First Order.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Serkis revealed that he was not absolutely sure whether coming back to Star Wars was a good idea despite Kino Loy now returning for Andor season 2. The actor revealed this hesitancy came from his experience playing Snoke in the sequel trilogy, and the fan expectation that came with it:

“There was such confusion about Snoke and Snoke theories, I just thought people are going to flip out and wonder what the hell is going on and assume there’s some sort of link there, I thought, ‘This is a minefield.’ ” As Serkis rightfully points out, the Snoke theories took over online discourse after his appearance in The Force Awakens, which was linked by some to Kino Loy from Andor. While many never truly believed that Kino Loy was in any way linked to Supreme Leader Snoke, some questions surrounding his appearance in the Disney+ series led many to theorize the character would later become Snoke.

The arc is a masterclass of long-form tension building that explodes in the thrilling "One Way Out" episode while introducing a character like Kino Loy. Serkis' transition from a dedicated, rule-abiding floor manager for the Empire to an angry, rage-fuelled rebel is incredibly satisfying and solidifies Andor's prison arc as one of Star Wars' best stories.
