So far, several Republican candidates have filed to run for the seat, and more are expected to jump into the race. While some candidates announced their intention to join the competition earlier this year, in the weeks since the senator said he would step down, the field has continued to grow.A political podcaster from Richfield who describes himself as a “constitutional conservative,” Ty Jensen filed with the Federal Election Commission as a candidate on April 7, 2023.
An early August news release from Wilson’s exploratory committee boasted the support of several dozen “conservative Utah legislators,” saying they were endorsing and encouraging him to run. The part-time lawmaker, who’s made his fortune as a residential developer, has so far out-raised and out-spent his opponents while also loaning his campaign $1.8 million.The day after he filed to run with the FEC in May, Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs announced his candidacy on Twitter, taking a swipe at Romney.
