The Free Fix-It Fair in 2023 took place over two days, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days.
The team fixed over 200 objects during the weekend, ranging from treasured items or apparel in need of restoration that people felt emotionally attached to, to practical goods with minor defects that had a lot of life left in them. Volunteers, meanwhile, get the satisfaction of putting their talents to work helping others, while basking in the gratitude and surprise from folks who had nearly given up hope on getting something fixed. And some staff even learn new skills themselves, like Luhr, who got schooled in repairing shoe soles, and then promptly fixed one of his own.
