These sensibly priced Oriole rosewood headphones from SIVGA offer incredible sound and amazing value for money.
The adjustable yoke that holds the two earcups is made from aluminum and keeps the weight down to just 280g. Each earcup swivels from side to side and tilts up and down to produce a fit that makes wearing the Orioles comfortable, even for long listening sessions. I don’t think it’s possible to get more comfortable headphones without spending much more money.
The 2m long detachable cable supplied with the Oriole headphones is perhaps a bit long for use on the go. It’s terminated with a stereo 3.5mm TRS jack plug and bifurcates into two mono 2.5mm jack plugs that fit into each earcup instead of a single-sided cable. Some people might not like that arrangement, but the Y-shaped configuration suits me perfectly.SIVGA also includes a 6.35mm gold-plated adapter in the box for plugging the Orioles into a proper audio system.
The first thing that struck me about the sound of these fantastic headphones is their bass. It must be one of the warmest, tightest and most beguiling bass frequencies I’ve heard in a while. Not only does it inject excitement into the music, it also seems to add bounce and energy. The bass never crushes the mid-range, which sounds nicely forward without being over the top.
The upper mids produced by the Orioles blend seamlessly into the clean and bright treble without being distorted or fatiguing. The effect is to create an overall sound that’s exciting and full of energy. These are very forgiving headphones and seem to lap up almost any genre of music and are particularly good with rock music and electric guitar solos.... [+]For those people who prefer a super-wide soundstage, the Orioles might disappoint a little.
The SIVGA Orioles play nicely with most audio sources, from a small DAC like Helm Audio’s Bolt to a full-on audio system. And with an impedance of 32Ω, the Orioles aren’t all that hard to drive, and they pair well, even with moderately expensive digital audio players and hi-fi systems. These headphones punch well above their weight and I’d be happy using them with almost any source.The SIVGA Oriole headphones have turned my opinion of headphones on its head.
