Researchers from Sweden found that a strength-training program can reduce the frequency of hot flashes.
Recommendations range from dressing in layers and keeping the bedroom cool to doing yoga and considering medication.Swedish researchers recruited 58 women who experienced at least four moderate-to-severe hot flashes or night sweats daily. They assigned half to a control group that didn’t change physical activity, and the other half to a 15-week resistance-training program that included three weekly 45-minute sessions.
The seated exercises were performed with 8 to 12 reps in two sets, with two minutes of rest between sets. The bodyweight exercises were done until exhaustion, around 20 reps per set. Sessions started with a 10-minute warmup and finished with dynamic and static stretching.
