or a grippy outsole, the same rule applies: If it’s not broken, don’t fix it. So, we’re glad there’s nothing too new to see here on the Prophecy. The shoe has the same blown rubber that Mizuno uses on nearly all of its road shoes, and I found that the traction still shines on slick sidewalks, rocky gravel, slippery downhills, and even some mud-smattered singletrack. One of our testers did feel a little unsteady on wet asphalt, but there was only praise for this shoe’s durability.
“Incredibly durable. This shoe does not skimp on materials. It feels like what an old-fashioned running shoe should be made out of,” one tester said. “The traction was also legit. I never felt like I was slipping up on hills or in the rain. These shoes will not break down before you do; they are sturdy as heck.”It’s hard to say whether these Mizunos run a little narrow in the forefoot, or runners have just gotten more accustomed to the wide toe box trend. In either case, this shoe is no.
“This shoe is a snug fit,” one tester said. “There’s not too much room for foot expansion if running over 10 miles, and heat buildup was more than normal due to the construction of the toe area.”
