SALT LAKE CITY — For the Spurs’ first 60 games this season, coach Gregg Popovich evaluated the evidence.Saturday, after the Spurs blew a double-digit lead in the second half before falling 118-102 in Utah, Popovich was at last ready to present his findings.
Utah did not take its first lead of the game until Walker Kessler made one of two foul shots to put the Jazz up 76-75 with 4:28 remaining in the third. The Spurs got 22 points from rookie Jeremy Sochan, who was playing in his first game since before the All-Star break, while Keldon Johnson supplied 18.
The self-described “cheeky” Spurs rookie has gotten into scraps with all manner of NBA veterans this season.In the second quarter, Sochan up-faked Dunn under the basket, drawing a hard foul as the Utah guard landed on top of him. Sochan had no issue with that.“I felt like he kept holding me after the foul,” Sochan said. “I kind of just pushed him off, because there’s no point of holding me.”Officials reviewed the play and declined to assess a flagrant foul.Dunn perhaps got the last laugh.
