Pete Hines from Bethesda has fired back against criticisms that Starfield’s main menu means the team ‘didn’t care.’
Now it seems things have got a lot sillier, as people have been arguing over the game’s start menu, of all things.
This all started with a tweet by game designer and former Blizzard Entertainment staff member Mark Kern, who criticised the menu and said it either ‘shows hasty shipping deadlines by a passionate team overworked, or a team that didn’t care.’ As you’d expect, that led to a lot of fans jumping to the defence of the game and a lot of arguing over something that clearly doesn’t matter at all.
Many have retaliated by highlighting simplistic start menus from highly accomplished and beloved games, such as and Final Fantasy 7, taking umbrage with the idea that a basic menu is somehow indicative of an uncaring development team. The start screen of a game can reveal a lot about how blah blah it’s totally not just Bethesda continuing their design philosophy of fairly simple start screens
