In his fortnightly Daily Record column, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar says he is no longer confident that today's kids are growing up in a better world than their parents.

It might be a cliché, but it is no exaggeration to say that the young people of Scotland are our future.

And this week, the scale of the challenge we face to improve the lives of our young people after 17 years of the SNP and 14 years of the Tories has been laid bare. And in our NHS too, our children are being failed, with over 10,000 waiting for the medical care they need, and mental health care in disarray.Cody has been repeatedly diagnosed with tonsilitis and his enlarged tonsils obstruct over 75 per cent of his airway, making it difficult to eat, drink and even breathe.

We will tackle the scandal of in-work poverty with new rules to end insecure work and make sure work pays a wage people can live on. The SNP and Greens have given up on climate leadership Scotland’s legal climate targets are “no longer credible” due to the SNP-Green government’s inaction, according to a scathing new report by the Climate Change Committee.

While workers and communities worry about their future, today Scottish Labour has revealed that the SNP-Green government is now planning to scrap the Green Jobs Fund and the Green Growth Accelerator and cut funding for the Just Transition Fund by a staggering 75%.

Labour criticised for copying Tory economic policyLabour criticised for copying Tory economic policyRachel Reeves has been slammed after she said Labour would copy a key Tory economic policy. The shadow chancellor said overall public debt should fall year-on-year as a share of GDP by the fifth year of official forecasts. This policy was adopted by the Tories in November 2022. It would mean Labour can only borrow for investment but not day-to-day spending. This would limit the amount of money the government has to spend. The SNP has warned the move will "choke off economic growth and impose devastating cuts to public services". Unite the Union said the plans would mean Labour will "end up in a straitjacket of your own making." SNP economy spokesperson Drew Hendry said: "Yesterday's speech from the Shadow Chancellor confirmed what the SNP have been saying for some time now: the fiscal policies of the Tories and Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party are now indistinguishable. "Labour's decision to adopt the Tories second fiscal rule will only choke off economic growth and impose devastating cuts to public services. The Shadow Chancellor had a chance to end that silence. "Instead, she has tried to pull the wool over people's eyes"
