Star Wars Rebels revealed a hidden planet long before Palpatine's secret world of Exegol, but the Alliance didn't really use it to their advantage.
Although the Rebel Alliance had its own secret version of Exegol, they actually wasted it in the Star Wars galaxy. As revealed in the animated Star Wars Rebels series, the individual Rebel cells that would become the Alliance discovered a world that was similarly remote and hard to access, making it the perfect planet to hide from the Empire and build their forces just like Palpatine did with the Final Order on Exegol. However, it seems this hidden world was left largely unused by the Rebellion.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In The Rise of Skywalker, Kylo Ren locates a Sith wayfinder, an ancient artifact that safely guides him through the dangers of the Unknown Regions to Exegol, the hidden Sith world where Palpatine resurrected himself and built a brand-new fleet of Star Destroyers and soldiers for his Final Order. Known as a "box system," Exegol had strategic value as there was only one way in or out.
Discovering millions of Lasat who still lived on Lira San, Zeb's hope was restored with the discovery that his people still lived, completely anonymous and hidden from the eyes of the Empire. Following the Galactic Civil War, Zeb even took Kallus to the world as the Imperial agent had redeemed himself by defecting to the Rebellion prior to the events of A New Hope.
Lira San Mirrors Palpatine's Hidden World Exegol Given Exegol's status in Star Wars as a box system that similarly required ancient knowledge to access it, the similarities to Lira San are easy to see. However, the only possible reason for the Rebellion not using Lira San as a base perhaps comes from the Alliance not wanting to endanger the Lasats.
Whether it was the scattering of the Alliance following The Empire Strikes Back, the First Order nearly wiping out the Resistance in The Last Jedi, or the initial formation of the Alliance in Star Wars Rebels, the galaxy's heroes really could have used Lira San as its own version of Exegol in Star Wars. It would have been the perfect base of operations where they could regroup and prepare their next moves.
