Even other conservative Christians were shocked
Calvin Robinson hosted a show called Calvin’s Common Sense on GB News Which rather brings to mind GK Chesterton’s comment that, “Journalism largely consists in saying ‘Lord Jones is dead’ to people who never knew Lord Jones was alive”.
He originally trained with the official Church of England, but claims he was refused ordination because of his outspoken political views, and while that’s been officially denied, it wouldn’t surprise me if it were the case. And quite right too, in that even before his television career he was extremely harsh and provocative on social media, and that would have made life in a parish almost impossible.
Within an hour of my appearance, Robinson had written on X to his 235,000 followers that, “for a Christian to be pro-abortion and anti-prayer is bad enough; for a priest it is unfathomable”. And, “Twisting scripture like that is wicked… judgment awaits. I pray he repents”. It was an outrageous misrepresentation.
Robinson blocked me on social media after that, and I certainly wasn’t invited back, and nor would I have agreed to appear on his show again. But it does go to character. As, I suppose, does his condemnation of Black Lives Matter as “a neo-Marxist, anti-British, anti-family organisation”, and his promotion of Enoch Powell’s ideas, writing a Substack post titled, “Why Enoch was right”, and even changing his X/Twitter banner to a picture of Powell himself.
