Nissan's R34 Skyline turns 25 years old, finally beating the U.S. 25-year import guidelines.
The R34 that races back and forth in your mind has bulging shoulders and hips, a menacing front fascia, and is powered by the mighty RB26DETT engine and transfers its grunt through Nissan's ATTESA E-TS all-wheel-drive layout. The car's legend, though often exaggerated by digital folklore, is undeniable. In order to get your hands on one of those is going to require some additional patience.
The GT-R model described above was actually introduced as a premium model the following January and, as such, isn't available for standard importation into the U.S. until we land in 2024. The non-GT-R models in both coupe and sedan are smattered with various amenities based on trim level and some are equipped with a very capable 2.5L RB25DET, but the die-hards with the means to pay for one aren't going to settle for anything less than a GT-R.
Along with that R34 GT-R that you might've seen at a cars and coffee or car show that've managed to somehow skirt regulation through less than legal manners, there are some exceptions that carry unique conditions that allow their owners the ability to hit the streets without the threat of being impounded or worse.
