Capitalist propaganda? Not quite.

It’s essentially a superhero show for toddlers, that exists to sell overpriced merchandise.
Kennedy, however, views the show as something far more insidious than an extended toy commercial, stating: "I would argue that the Paw Patrol, as a private corporation, is used to help provide basic social services in the Adventure Bay community. That's problematic in that thecreators are sending this message that we can't depend on the state to provide these services … I just think that as time goes on, children might be less likely to critique the capitalist system that causes environmental harm in the first place and reproduces inequality.
I don’t think that young audiences watching Ryder and his pups rescue a man from a burning building will come to the conclusion that their local fire station should be replaced by a private corporation, profiting from the labor of trained dogs. But the show is certainly teaching them ... something. , and I used to find Thomas’ fixation on being a “really useful engine” somewhat sinister.
I can certainly see the appeal in the fantasy, but there’s also something vaguely depressing about it; in children’s media, the point of friends fighting is that they eventually make amends, and understand why the conflict arose. Perhaps the characters will realize that they made a mistake, or come to the conclusion that some people are just a bit difficult, but worth befriending - think Oscar the Grouch, or Eeyore, the clinically depressed donkey.
