The New York Times points out that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has worn black leather jackets for nearly two decades.
, Vanessa Friedman, the Times’ head of fashion and longtime fashion critic, digs into the implications of Huang’s favored outerwear. He’s worn these jackets for more than two decades now, a spokesperson for Huang told her, often with a black T-shirt and jeans to match — edgy garments relative to the chinos and blue button-down shirts favored by a vast majority of men in tech.
Obviously, the leather jacket — popularized by “greasers” and Hollywood-ified by the likes of James Dean and Marlon Brando in the mid-20th century — is the aesthetic antithesis to Jobs’ and Zuck’s apparel of choice, which suggests efficiency and brainpower funneled to other ventures. Friedman argues that the jacket, while different from the ones favored by Dean and Brando, casts Huang as something of a renegade, unlike the rest of the stuffy tech world.
