The watch novelty cycle may have become a year-round affair to suit our digital age, but the Swiss are still tied to their bumper spring drops.
If there was any suggestion that the watch industry’s fondness for green-themed watches might fade, it’s been quickly nipped in the bud this year. Fumé and sunburst, minty and forest-hued, watches finished in shades of green are still shooting up all over. Add to the list this precious edition of Piaget’s slinky cocktail watch, the Limelight Gala, now decorated with malachite and 22 gradient-green tsavorites on its fluid, asymmetric bezel.
After last year’s winning Tank Must comes the Tank Chinoise, a Tank standard conceived in 1922 and distinguishable from its plainer sibling by the solid bars laid horizontally over the watch’s frame at 12 and 6 o’clock. These, it’s said, were inspired by the porticos of Chinese temples, and the name was set.
