Sex and the City, one of the best British crime dramas ever made, has joined this list of duffers.Elba is serviceable as the miserable detective, who must first break out of prison before he can investigate a spree of murders by a psychopathic millionaire . But an hour in – about the time it takes to wrap up a normal episode of– I started to wonder how long was left, devastated to learn I had another hour and a bit to get through. Worst of all, Alice doesn’t pitch up.
Aside from the fact that they are barefaced cash grabs , concepts made for television often don’t translate into movie magic. It is not that TV storylines and ideas are unambitious, nor is film an inherently better medium than television. But the need to carry the original show’s DNA over into a feature film is limiting. Either a storyline that could be told with detail and decent pacing over a whole series is rushed, or what could have been one episode is stretched beyond its limits.as a TV series would be a huge deal.
