Its iconic Wide Field Camera 3 observed Saturn this past June as the Ringed Planet made its closest approach to Earth this year.
No doubt about it, Saturn is by far the solar system’s most photogenic planet.
However, you don’t need to be at Saturn to photograph it. In fact, Hubble has a big advantage over space probes because it can look at planets periodically and observe them over much longer periods than any passing probe can during a flyby. This new image taken by NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope’s Wide Field Camera 3 shows Saturn’s rings looking extra-bright. That’s thanks to it being snapped on 20 June 2019 as the Ringed Planet made its closest approach to Earth this year, at approximately 1.36 billion kilometres away.It also captured an image of some of its moons Tethys, Janus, Mimas, Enceladus and Rhea.

We are a few months past opposition now, but if you've never seen Saturn's delicate ring pattern, now is a good time because the ring system is ideally angled for a good view.
