The Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept transcends the genre.
Normally"coupe" versions of regular SUVs look a bit contrived and awkward. The Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept somehow manages to buck the trend with its gracefully sloped roofline and enormous ducktail. The Korean luxury brand showed off this very orange concept in New York on Monday night, and it looks production-ready.
A new fascia and all sorts of other design tweaks throughout help turn the stately GV80 into something more sporty. It draws inspiration fromthe brand showed off this time last year, especially in the way it uses the brand's parallel-lines lightning signature. There are typical concept-car flights of fancy with the massive wheels, lurid orange paint, and interior shod with four individual bucket seats plus half cage in the trunk.
"At its inception, the Genesis brand began creating luxury sedans, which evolved into the G70, G80, and G90 models," said Hyundai chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke in a statement."Over the past seven years, we have added more lifestyle-oriented models to the portfolio, such as our GV80 and GV70 SUVs. Now we are pushing the envelope with more emotional cars that elevate Genesis' performance and dynamic attributes.
Say what you will about SUV"coupes" but they have proven successful for luxury automakers. Genesis wants to be a real rival to Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, and a car like this is a key part of the SUV portfolio. Given that
