'This could be the most exciting artistic event ever to happen in Stockport'
A part of Stockport’s forgotten backwaters will be transformed into a colourful and vibrant haven thanks to a group of prestigious artists from Argentina.
The La Boca to La Stocka project, which has been described as the ‘most exciting artistic event’ to take part in the borough, comes from John and Sophie Macaulay, the husband-and-wife team behind GRIT Studios and Art Battle Manchester."This could be the most exciting artistic event ever to happen in Stockport,” John explains. “We are bringing together people who have a lot in common, even though they live half a world away.
The artists travelling from La Boca will be Eva Luna Maissa, Patrica Salatino, Melina Lluvia, Omar Gasparini and Alejandro Fenochio. As part of the project, they will spend ten days living in the neighbourhood around Stockport’s Canal Street where they will get to know the community and gain inspiration for their artwork.
“We love the story of what artists were able to do in La Boca,” Sophie says. “It was a forgotten place; the buildings were crumbling; yet people were determined that their children should experience the influence of art and culture they used blank walls as their canvas.
