An 'evil' killer, a 'vile' paedophile and the brothers fleecing wealthy couples... these are the criminals locked up in Greater Manchester last month
A robbery gang that targeted wealthy couple for Rolex watches and a thug who bludgeoned to death his housemate are among the serious criminals to be locked up in March.
Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Liam was alive for some of the attack, suffering defensive injuries as he desperately tried to protect himself. "He must have been aware of the hopelessness of his situation as he tried to fend off blows from the axe," Judge Maurice Greene said. The judge said that Oldham had cocaine and steroids in his system, and that he may have been experiencing drug-induced psychosis at the time of the killing. He had referred to a 'hex' and 'shape shifters' in notes he had written that day. Oldham lied to police in interview, claiming a 'gang' was responsible for Liam's death.
He managed to keep hold of the watch although the strap, itself worth £12,000, was taken, as well as his partner's £13,000 Rolex. Now the brothers, and three other members of their gang, have been jailed after a court heard of the lasting trauma they had inflicted. As the woman struggled remove the band, the husband implored the robbers: "Just take my watch - leave my wife alone." The gang grabbed the £40,000 Rolex Daytona timepiece and sped away in the Astra, leaving the terrified couple in their wake.
The robbers also took Louis Vuitton bag containing sunglasses, documents, keys and other valuables. The Peugeot sped off, running a series of red lights as the robbers fled. The court heard a passer-by who heard 'screaming and shouting' and who watched the owner of the Philippe Patek being assaulted on the ground, took a photo of the incident on a mobile phone, and later handed it to police. It helped police identify the gang.
A judge said the fact that he was still talking about the abuse years later showed he 'still derived some form of deviant kick from it'. Owens will only be released from prison when he is able to demonstrate to the Parole Board that it is safe to do so. He was also ordered to sign the sex offender's register for life, and an indefinite sexual harm prevention order was imposed, prohibiting him from being with children under 16 and restricting his use of the internet.
The 31-year-old, from Ashton-under-Lyne, was jailed at Minshull Street Crown Court on March 20 following his campaign of terror. The court heard how Maher, a dad-of-one, and the victim had begun their relationship in May 2021, but it deteriorated over claims he was being controlling. The Royal Oldham Hospital's A&E department was placed on full 'lockdown' in August last year as Daniel Buckley, 32, told a hospital sister who walked over: "You need armed police." A court heard there was a 20-minute 'stand-off' with firearms officers before Buckley, who was carrying a meat cleaver and a knife, eventually surrendered and was arrested.
Racist thug broke stranger's jaw in mistaken identity road rage attack A racist thug broke a stranger's jaw after mistaking him for a man involved in a road rage incident. Andrew Ashton approached the victim on Chorley Old Road in Bolton and punched him in the face before racially abusing him, the Crown Prosecution Service said.
Richard Holliday, senior prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service North West, said: "Andrew Ashton carried out a shocking attack on a stranger, resulting in a broken jaw. The man, who was innocently going about his business, was not only assaulted but also racially abused when Ashton realised he had the wrong man.Man, 39, banned from the road got behind the wheel for 'something to do'...
Grant, of Chapel Street, Dukinfield, was sentenced to five years and nine months as part of a consecutive sentence for a separate affray offence from 2020. Grant and Jones, both 39, ran into the garden of the neighbour and his partner, before trying to break into their home. They said the house was 'marked' and told them: "You are dead."
Man sank bottle of vodka then sprayed bleach in supermarket worker's face A man who'd sunk a bottle of vodka sprayed bleach in a supermarket worker's face after he was confronted for coughing on customers outside a Lidl store during the Covid pandemic. Younis Mohammed, 55, shouted: "You stupid n****r, I'm going to kill you."
The court heard that one of the victims of the burglary spree was Maja Lindelof, the Swedish footballer's Instagram influencer wife. Prosecuting, Hugh McKee told the court that a burglary took place at the Lindelof home in Hale Barnes, Trafford, on January 19 last year. McCabe, 19, of Boothfield Road, Wythenshawe, was jailed for three years and 11 months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary. McEwan, 20, of Moorcroft Road, Manchester, was jailed for one year and ten months after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit burglary.
Ainsley Stafford's actions caused the car to spin out of control and face oncoming traffic on the A666. He then screamed at his victim to "move the f***ing car" before police arrived, prosecution barrister Patrick Williamson told Bolton Crown Court. The court heard that Stafford ranted about being 'the biggest man in Bolton' and ordered the woman to ram the Mercedes taxi, which was in the road, but she refused. Eventually she managed to drive away from him.
Michael Hollinshead, 41, Joey Peers, 43, and Paul Dixon, 37, were also at the flat and, after taking crack cocaine, Hollinshead demanded money from the man. At one point the victim asked Wilde for help but she replied: “Just tell them the PIN and I can ask them to leave you alone.” They threatened to throw him out of the window whilst he was still tied up and he received further punches.
Daniel Waterworth, 31, inappropriately touched the girl - who is of primary school age - in December last year. At the time of the sexual assault, he was on bail in relation to a string of separate offences against his girlfriend. When they were both at their home later that evening, he got a knife from under a pillow and threatened to kill her if she screamed. He then locked the front door but the woman managed to escape to the front garden.
Dad couldn't handle youths playing a prank on him - his rage ended in near-tragedy A vigilante mowed down an innocent university student in his Land Rover then left him for dead while hunting youths who played knock-and-run at his family home. The victim, who had not been involved in the earlier incidents, was struck in the legs and thrown onto the bonnet of the Land Rover, which then sped away as his friends tended to him.
Murambakanda finally pleaded guilty to two offences of rape and was today jailed for six years and four months. The court heard that the victim was vulnerable and receiving help from carers. After meeting her the week before, Murambakanda attempted to befriend her after striking up conversation outside her house.
An investigation was launched which established the firm, run by manager/director Daniel Luke Cockcroft, had never held a licence to remove asbestos - despite advertising that they did. It was also discovered during the investigation that the firm had falsified asbestos training certificates and insurance documents. and that they, and Cockcroft, had breached a prohibition notice on several occasions.
Man's sickening £100,000 scam led to eight people being made redundant A trainee solicitor stole more than £100,000 to fund a gambling addiction, a court heard. Tauseef Sadeeq, 31, was working for Bolton-based Jacob Miller Solicitors when he began tricking insurance companies into paying money meant for clients into his own bank accounts.
Mr Buckles said: "Mr Khan notes how the case concerning the defendant has been widely reported and that the reputation of the firm has been damaged. A number of clients of the firm who became aware of the defendant’s actions removed their business and instructed new solicitors.
