Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has been transformed from an exchange of ideas into a pep rally for Trump and Trumpism.
Some people Wordle. Some do Sudoku puzzles. I like to thumb through the thesaurus occasionally to find unusual synonyms or artful phrases. To me, one of the most interesting language diversions is the appreciation of collective nouns.
The annual convening of the Conservative Political Action Conference reminds us that there are humans who band together in a way that can send one to the reference books to find the right words to describe their collective actions. For some time now, the conference has been less about actual conservative values and more about showcasing a far-right agenda. Just a few years ago, CPAC served as a springboard that helped launch the candidacies of thought leaders in the conservative movement.
There will be others who take the podium with their own brand of Trumpism. Look for Kari Lake to whine that she is the actual Governor of Arizona. Expect a series of speakers like Rep. Matt Gaetz , Sen. Ted Cruz , and Sen. Josh Hawley to spin their versions of reality with a generous dose of vitriol aimed directly at Joe Biden.
At this writing, neither Speaker Kevin McCarthy, nor any Republican governors will be addressing the group. Former Gov. Nikki Haley is the only other credible candidate for president who will be speaking.
