Lawyers for Dr. Caitlin Bernard want a judge to stop Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita from accessing private patient medical records.
INDIANAPOLIS — Dr. Caitlin Bernard took the witness stand Monday to defend attacks on her reputation and to block Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita from accessing private medical records of an abortion she performed on a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio.
The obstetrician/gynecologist was thrust into the national spotlight last summer when she was quoted in Indianapolis media speaking about an abortion she performed on a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio who traveled to Indianapolis because the procedure had been outlawed in here home state. They said the doctor violated patient confidentiality of her patient when she told a reporter about the girl's case.
