Texas, Washington look to end bounce-back seasons on high note in Alamo Bowl
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian and quarterback Quinn Ewers look to finish 2022 on a strong note with an Alamo Bowl win after the program failed to reach the postseason a year ago.SAN ANTONIO — Texas and Washington were left out in the cold last bowl season.
“Anytime you spend a year off where you don't get to go to a bowl game,” Sarkisian said, “you don't earn a bowl game, and now you earn the right to get to one and one with the tradition that this bowl has, we’re obviously really excited and our players are looking forward to a great week and a great game.”Sarkisian was in his third year as Washington's head coach when the Huskies met Baylor and its Heisman-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III in the 2011 Alamo Bowl.
Texas will be without Doak Walker winner Bijan Robinson and second-leading rusher Roschon Johnson, who both opted out to prepare for the NFL draft. That shouldn’t deter Sarkisian establishing the run early, junior scatback Keilan Robinson and true freshman Jaydon Blue handling all the reps. And redshirt freshman quarterback Quinn Ewers will get to air it out to a slew of returning playmakers against Washington's leaky pass defense.
