Stephen M. Sheppard is a distinguished scholar at St. Mary's University law school. Now, he's under criminal investigation and barred from campus, court records show.
, 60, and removed carpeting, a desktop computer and other items, according to court documents associated with the search warrant.
The student “said she became uncomfortable and attempted to stand up from the chair,” but Sheppard forced her onto the table, bent her over, covered her mouth with his left hand and sexually assaulted her, the affidavit said. After the alleged assault, the student said she met with Sheppard again in November so he could sign the same paperwork again, and she saw him around campus in January, “which triggered her to report the sexual assault,” the affidavit states.
The student said she waited to tell law enforcement because she was scared “due to Professor Sheppard’s background and connections” and feared that coming forward would ruin her law career before it started, according to the Ranger's affidavit.
