Both will be back for Texas.AUSTIN — It’s not often mighty Texas gets to play the underdog card for weeks at a time. But that’s precisely what happened last spring, the plucky Longhorns staving off elimination again and again to become the first unseeded team to reach the Women’s College World Series championship series.
“Yeah, obviously, we have to replace a lot of pieces,” White said. “So, it’s going to be a question of how quickly the team can come together and who is going to be the leaders on the squad this year. But we are excited about this group of newcomers and looking forward to getting going this weekend.”
“Yeah, no doubt it’s going to be a start right out of the gate with Missouri, a perennial powerhouse and always hits the ball pretty well,” White said. “Then you, more than likely, face one of the best pitchers in the country in Northwestern’s left-hander Danielle Williams.” There’s no easy way to replace Jefferson, catcher Mary Iakopo and Dolcini — each named to last year’s All-Big 12 first team — but White believes Texas is talented enough as a group to help offset those key losses.
