The Texas legislature focused once again on border security legislation, but this time, they are looking more specifically on building a wall between Texas and
Texas lawmakers are talking about investing $1.5 million in a border wall. That $1.5 billion translates to around 100 miles of border wall. That’s on top of the more than $5 billion the state has allocated toward border security over the next two years.
“The request for additional funds today is to make sure that the processes can continue, instead of reverting to a stop-and-start process that will lead to much slower construction,” said Sarah Hicks, Budget Director, Office of the Governor. Texas representatives say the wall would be installed in places where crossings are the highest. Some money would also go toward cameras and roads that run alongside the wall.
Not far from mind, the Biden Administration green-lighting more border wall construction, years after Congress had appropriated money specifically for that. Texas Republicans say they’re happy to invest, but think the federal government should foot the bill.
