OCI Solar Power is building the 110-megawatt, Alamo 6 solar farm in Iraan in West Texas to provide renewable power to the city of San Antonio. The project is slated to come online by the end of the year.

“There are definitely members of yours that would not have locations in the state of Texas but for a program like this, correct?” Rep. Morgan Meyer, a Dallas Republican who chairs the committee, asked the head of the Texas Association of Manufacturers, Tony Bennett.Bennett and other corporate liaisons said the tax breaks are even more important since the pandemic and the war in Ukraine because companies are increasingly looking to bring back their operations to the U.S.

In dozens of cases companies had either already publicly announced the projects or even started construction before applying and getting the subsidies anyway, the Chronicle found. At the very least, opponents said, there should be more scrutiny when evaluating applicants for any similar tax incentives.
