Gov. Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dade Phelan seem ready to find a way forward. But it is unclear whether a compromise is within sight before this special session ends.

The GOP trio had been at a tension-filled political impasse since the House delivered a take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum to the Senate before abruptly shutting down. Angered by the political stunt, Patrick vowed that the Senate wouldn’t pass the House’s measure, which he said shortchanged homeowners on property tax relief.
