Areas of the Texas coast will be closed to angling to protect vulnerable fish during the impending freeze. The temporary fishing closure will begin at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department announced Thursday.The department closes select areas along the coast when water temperatures are expected to dip below 40 degrees and threaten aquatic life, including recreationally important species like spotted seatrout and red drum.
The areas set to close include Army Hole near Port O’Connor, Barney Davis Outfall, Bluff's Point Channel, Humble Channel, Padre Island Canals, Tropical Isles and the Rincon Subdivision near Corpus Christi, Bay Harbor Canals and Matagorda Harbor near Matagorda, Brazos Santiago Pass South Jetty near Brownsville, Conn Brown, Harbor Island Hole and Pelican Cove/Bay Harbor near Aransas Pass, Cove Harbor, Little Bay and Redfish Bay Subdivisions near Rockport, Entergy Outfall near Bridge City,...
