Texans vs. Titans preview: The Christian Harris impact, stopping Derrick Henry and other key issues
No matter who has been on defense for the Texans, Houston has had trouble stopping Derrick Henry in recent years.The Texans are looking to remain undefeated in the AFC South after suffering a loss in Las Vegas last week that featured another fourth-quarter collapse.
But I’m not yet convinced that one rookie linebacker is going to significantly improve a defense that is deeply flawed when it faces the run. All defensive schemes function when supplied with superior talent, but Lovie Smith’s philosophy relies heavily on instincts. Houston’s roster deficiencies, particularly on the defensive front, have been exploited for the last two seasons.
Until then, Harris does provide speed for the Texans, which should help in being able to get to ball carriers. He’s their fastest linebacker. But they also lose depth with Kamu Grugier-Hill’s release. Grugier-Hill wasn’t playing well in recent games. But it’s also not like the Texans are a deep team.
